A Very Special Announcement

We interrupt our ongoing exploration of the design of Realm of Runes to let you know that Lee Draper (also the one writing these blogs) has a new fantasy book available in the Amazon Kindle store. It's called Zoltan the Yellow, and it's the story of a wayward traveler forced into pretending to be a wizard. If you like fantasy, humor and dramatic irony, it's well worth checking out. The cover art is by Nikki Smith-Cielo, who also designed the Fornax and Realm of Runes logos, though this story is entirely unrelated to the RPG project. You can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082NZJB4F

Below is the story's description. It's told from two alternating perspectives, Zoltan's and that of the agent working against him.

For Zoltan, things keep going from bad to worse. Getting lost in an epic thunderstorm is unfortunate, but accidentally becoming embroiled in a political struggle between a beleaguered populous and its despotic ruler is downright dangerous. Being involved was never the plan, and it happened so quickly and so thoroughly that simply explaining the misunderstanding might just be as perilous as seeing it through. Even running away isn't an option, as the citizens are too desperate to let any possible source of relief slip through their grasp.

Making matters even more complicated, Zoltan's lone apparent ally is secretly an agent of the regime who sees this stranger as a perfect patsy to crush a nascent rebellion and curry favor with his lord at the same time. Caught in a web of intentional and accidental deceit, Zoltan must carefully play the part of the hero everyone believes him to be to have any chance at returning to some sense of normalcy. When that role requires him to go on an epic quest to slay a dragon, returning to normal becomes the least of his problems. Can Zoltan become the hero everyone believes him to be? Or will things only keep getting worse?
